Mahaica Sports Complex open for residents in Point Fortin

Residents of the Borough of Point Fortin and surrounding communities can now access the eagerly anticipated Mahaica Sports Complex located on Neverson Street, Point Fortin.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley officially opened the sporting facility on Saturday 08th October, 2022.

With a seating capacity of approximately 1,795 persons; change/locker rooms, public washrooms service areas, a media centre and VIP lounge, this complex is set to continue its legacy as a training ground for many sports champions and flag-bearers of T&T.

In his feature address, Prime Minister Rowley said “This is yet another piece of infrastructure invested in by the people of Trinidad and Tobago, the taxpayers of Trinidad and Tobago to ensure that the people of Point Fortin continue to be a beacon and a bright light.

Dr Rowley also took the opportunity to call on corporate Trinidad, especially those in the southwest peninsula to ensure that their involvement continues to contribute to the unearthing of talents from Trinidad and Tobago.

The Prime Minister urged corporate bodies to not wait until an athlete wins a gold medal to become interested in supporting.

Dr Rowley said “support the young ones who are dreaming the dream. So that when the dream is realised, you can say I too had a hand in that because I played a part in getting them to that world podium.”

Minister of Sport and Community Development, Shamfa Cudjoe, Member of Parliament for Point Fortin, the Hon. Kennedy Richards Jr. and Point Fortin Mayor, Her Worship Alderman Saleema McCree Thomas were also in attendance at the opening ceremony.
