Licensing Office making special provisions for vehicles working Carnival parade routes

Owners and operators of vehicles who will participate in Carnival Monday and Tuesday are being allowed preference to have their vehicles inspected.

Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan, said the Licensing Division assisted the National Carnival Commission with planning the routes for the festivities and the division made special provisions for vehicles that have to get permits to work for Carnival.

He said the rules for getting vehicles inspected were not new, but the Division is trying to ensure people do what the law requires.

Sinanan said to operate along a parade route: a vehicle must always be working with specifications, as music trucks with structures that are too high can pull down the overhead lines.

“You do not want a truck that is supposed to be 40-feet long at 50 feet and then causes a problem because it cannot turn or manoeuvre, and that keeps back the whole of Carnival.”

Sinanan, in a GML interview, said Carnival was a time for the Division to ensure that vehicles operate within regulations. Once they pass, the owners or operators get a permit to display them on their trucks.

“It has always been the law that vehicles must be inspected to operate on the nation’s roads.”
