Kamla questions why a senior gov’t official was granted exemption to leave and re-enter

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is once again questioning the travel exemption process, stating that PNM “friends and family” were being given exemptions to enter and leave.

She raised the questions as she noted that a Senior Government official was granted an exemption to travel abroad and return home 2 weeks later.

She was speaking at the UNC’s virtual Local Government Bye-election campaign launch last night.
Mrs Persad-Bissessar alleged that the Government is not treating all citizens equally.

She added that there is still no transparency in the process.

She accused the Government of violating people’s rights to equality of treatment.

She also addressed the recent resignation of the Deputy Chairman of the Procurement Regulator, James Chang Kit

Mr Chang Kit told News Power Now that his decision was prompted by the government’s recent amendments to the Public Procurement Act which he claimed has weakened the effectiveness the board.
Mrs Persad-Bissessar described Mr Chang Kit as a patriot.
