The current chairman of the Sangre Grande Regional corporation, Anil Juteram, has been rejected by the party’s screening committee for Local Government election, and is being replaced as the candidate for the Vega De Oropouche seat where he’s currently a councillor.
On Thursday, the party made the decision to go with a new candidate from the area.
The UNC has been in control of the Sangre Grande corporation since the 2019 LG Election, when the UNC and PNM tied 7-7 for control of the 14 corporations.
The PNM is heavily targeting the Sangre Grande corporation in the upcoming polls.
Juteram held the Vega De Oropouche seat for two terms, most recently winning in the 2019 LG election. He has been chairman of the corporation since December 2019.
Following the news of his rejection, a post was made to Juteram’s Facebook page, stating the following:
The party’s decision came two weeks after Juteram had appeared on the UNC’s Monday Night Report meeting in Sangre Grande on June 12, when he’ d given a fiery speech.
