Hunting season closed

The 2022-23 Hunting Season is officially over.

The season officially comes to a close today, February 28, 2023.

The public is advised of the closure of the 2022-23 hunting season with a warning that anyone found in breach of the law could be fined up to $100,000.

In a statement dated February 27, 2023, Conservator of Forests at the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, Denny Dipchansingh, said as per the Conservation of Wildlife Act, hunting activity of game animals on all lands of Trinidad and Tobago must cease by February 28, 2023.

Anyone found hunting during the closed season would incur a fine of $100,000 under the Act, as amended by Legal Notice 275 of 2020.

Additionally the public has until March 31, 2023, to dispose of game animal carcasses (or any part thereof) from their property and/or their possession.

The Ministry said those in possession of a State Game Licence (hunting permit) purchased for the 2022-2023 Hunting Season must complete and submit the Mandatory Data Return Forms on or before May 31st, 2023.

The Ministry said failure to comply may result in a summary conviction of TT$2,500 per data form.
