Gov’t Seeking Legal Advice On Legislative Changes To Integrity Commission, Says AG

The government is seeking legal advice on whether there should be legislative changes to grant the Integrity Commission the authority to determine its staffing needs and recruit staff.

This advice is being sort from the experienced Russell Martineau, Senior Counsel.

Attorney General, Reginald Armour, said the issue is still being deliberated upon.

In his response in the Senate on Tuesday, the AG noted the constitutional relationship which he said must be respected between the executive and the Commission.

The AG was asked by Opposition Senator, Wade Mark, how long it will take for this matter to be sorted out to which he indicated a date could not be given at this time.
