Government Signs US$80 Mil Water Loan Agreement With The IDB

Government has signed a loan contract with the Inter-American Development Bank.

In the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, Planning and Development Minister Pennelope Beckles signed the contract on behalf of the Government with the IDB’s recently appointed President Ilan Goldfajn.

This signing was for the First Individual Operation for the National Water Sector Transformation Programme, in the amount of US$80 Million.

It will be executed by the Ministry of Public Utilities. The Water and Sewerage Authority will act as a sub-executing agency.

Cabinet agreed to the US $80 million loan as part of a US $315 million conditional credit line for the Trinidad and Tobago National Water Sector Transformation Program.

Through this program, the Government aims to improve operational efficiency and reliability of water supply services; improve quality of water services for underserved communities, and develop capacity and provide institutional strengthening to the Ministry of Public Utilities and WASA, to improve governance and sustainable management of water resources in Trinidad and Tobago.
