Gadsby Dolly: Consultation had on decision to send suspended children to Milat

There was consultation on the decision to suspend indiscipline students and refer them to the Military Led Academic Training Programme.

Minister of Education, Dr Nyan Gadbsy Dolly, said the deliberations were held with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Children’s Authority, the National Parent Teachers Association and other stakeholders.

On Thursday the Education Minister revealed suspended students from government and government assisted schools would be compulsory sent to the Military Led Academic Training Programme.

Independent Senator, Hazel Thompson Ahye, sought answers from the Education Minister on the legal authority under which children expelled from the school system would be transitioned into the MILAT programme.

In response the Minister said the move is a policy decision which has backing of a memorandum of understanding.
