The AG Reveals Case Management Conference Scheduled For February 7th Next Year Into The Brent Thomas Matter

On Wednesday February 7th 2024, a case management conference will be held into Trinidad and Tobago national, Brent Thomas, who was reportedly  arrested in Barbados and subsequent repatriated by Trinidad and Tobago police.

Attorney General, Reginald Armour, provided the update in the Senate on Friday.

Answering on  behalf of the Prime Minister, the AG reiterated on May 10th this year before the House of Representatives in a ministerial statement he said the executive played no role in the events and the facts giving raise to the judgement delivered and commented on by Justice Devindra Rampersad on April 25th 2023.

The AG said the Office of the Attorney General has filed an application before the court of appeal to hear the appeal urgently in priority over all other appeals.

He said the substantive matter is ongoing before the court of appeal and is subjudice and it is a breach of standing order 47 to pursue any matter which relates to active proceedings in any court of record until the proceedings are ended by judgement or discontinuance.

Earlier,  Opposition Senator , Wade Mark, wanted to find out from the Prime Minister  was said arrest treated with via an extradition order; who, if any, were the key Government representatives involved in this extradition process;  what was the role of the Office of the Attorney General, if any, in this extradition process, who authorized police officers to use a Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force aircraft for this mission; and whether an independent investigation has been launched into this matter.
