Former NOC head, Garvin Heerah, says the Government should explore the formation of a possible FBI like organization in T&T.
Speaking with News Power Now, Mr Heerah, said the idea of a Special Vetted Unit with extra pay to address the corruption in the TTPS is not a bad initiative.
However, he noted that corruption doesn’t exist only in the Police Service and as a result, any entity should be adequately empowered to thoroughly investigate all these state arms.
The Regional Security expert suggested the establishment of a National Bureau of Investigations and the possible expansion of that model to a Caribbean based organization.
Mr Heerah said that before all that is done however, first on the Government’s agenda should be the welfare of police officers.
