Former National Security Official questions the state’s ability to consistently detain migrants

It’s a good move to see combined law enforcement in immigration operations.

This is the belief of former NOC head Garvin Heerah following the arrest of 200 migrants who were found to be in the country illegally.

The migrants were held during a birthday party at a nightclub in St James.

Mr Heerah told Power 102 Digital this morning that he believes operations of this nature send the right message to the public regarding the willingness to enforce laws.

Mr Heerah added that the country however has to focus on capacity building if operations of this magnitude are to continue.

He noted that the country does not necessarily currently have the infrastructure to consistently detain persons following large scale operations of this nature.
