Former Central Bank Governor receives $7m for wrongful dismissal

Former Central Bank governor Jwala Rambarran has won 7.5 million dollars in a wrongful dismissal lawsuit against the state.

Rambarran was appointed Central Bank Governor in July 2012 and his contract was terminated in December 2015.

The decision came shortly after he announced that T&T was in a recession and after he revealed the names of some of the biggest foreign exchange users in the country.

The compensation, which is quite possibly the largest ordered against the State in litigation involving the breach of constitutional rights, represents the salary and benefits that Rambarran would have received had his contract not been terminated before it was due to end in July 2017.
