Penal contractor levies on EFCL for $1.2M owed

GM Transport Company Limited, a Penal based contracting company, has levied on the Education Facilities Company Ltd (EFCL) for $1.2 million owed for school renovations done.

EFCL’s offices at Long Circular Road, Maraval, was the scene of action yesterday, as Court marshals and bailiffs for GM went in, and confiscated office chairs, furniture, fittings etc., in an attempt to recover $1,010,571 and interest.

Education Minister Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, said her ministry and the Finance Ministry were aware of the situation and were “in discussion about a final resolution of the issues surrounding the debt profile of the EFCL.”

EFCL had asked a judge for time to pay GM Transport back in February 2020, but never did, resulting in Thursday’s levy.
