Florida man arrested after 2 hour long firetruck chase

A Florida man was arrested after leading police on a 2 hour long 75 kilometre chase in a stolen fire truck.

Miami Fire officers were conducting a training exercise in North Miami Beach at around 7 PM when one of their trucks pulled away.

The truck crashed into a parked police car nearby which then signalled the start of the chase.

The man, identified as Lekambrick Hanna, made his way onto the I-95 interstate highway where he picked up speed and kept going.

Miami-Dade police officers pursued the truck until the Broward County line. Deputies from Broward County picked up the chase, and then yielded to Palm Beach County authorities when the vehicle crossed into Boca Raton.

The pursuit came to an end after he surrendered around 9 p.m. in Boynton Beach after leading police through 3 different counties.

Hanna was taken to custody and was charged with grand theft of medical emergency equipment.

During his court hearing, in a bid for leniency by the judge, Hanna raised his hand and pointed out that he was authorized to drive a vehicle of that size as he has his Commercial Driver’s licence.

The judge was unmoved and when his bail of $2,500 was announced, Hanna was in disbelief.

He braced the judge this time asking “OK, I have a question. Where do you expect me to get $2,500 from?’”

When the judge replied that he didn’t know, Hanna seemingly upset quipped “You don’t care, or you don’t know?”
