The Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management Company Limited (SWMCOL) is advising the public that at approximately 8:45 pm last evening, SWMCOL’s Emergency Management Team (EMT) was alerted about a fire at the south-western end of the Beetham landfill.
SWMCOL said while the fire has been contained smoke is still emanating from the site.
As such, SWMCOL is advising the public and those who live in the vicinity to exercise caution as it works during the day to extinguish the fire and determine the cause.
“We also take this opportunity to thank the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Services (TTFS) and SWMCOL’s Emergency Management team (EMT) for their efforts in containing the fire,” SWMCOL said in its statement.
The company assured that, “Further updates will be provided as become necessary.”
