A 20-year-old man identified as Josiah Vespre was shot dead during a reported shoot-out with police in Couva.
Around 1:50 pm Thursday, officers of the Southern Division Task Force were on exercise duty along Railway Road, Couva when they stopped their vehicles and came out.
The officers then saw two men running in the opposite direction, and Vespre allegedly began shooting at them. The officers reportedly returned fire and shot him.
Vespre was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A Glock pistol, containing a magazine and several rounds of ammunition, was recovered. Southern Division Snr Supt Richard Smith has confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the fatal shooting.
