Elderly man drowns in pond

An elderly man in his 70s is suspected to have drowned in a pond close to his home in Matura.

John Fortune was last seen around 7:00 p.m on Friday after a neighbour saw him walking along Mendoza Street in Matura with a knife in his hand. He wore only a pair of boxers.

When the neighbour could not find Fortune, a missing person report was filed with the police, and villagers began to search the area for him.

On Saturday, they continued to search for Fortune after his knife was found near a pond close to his home.
Villagers searched the pond and found Fortune’s body.

Fortune allegedly suffered from Parkinson’s Disease. A post mortem is expected to be done today to determine the cause of death.

Investigations are continuing.
