Elderly man dies in early morning Chatham fire

An elderly man of Chatham was burnt to death on Wednesday morning.

Ezekiel Juba, who was said to be in his late 70s, was alone at his Chatham Road, South home at the time of the incident.

The fire, of unknown origins began sometime between 1 and 2 am on Wednesday.

Officers from the Point Fortin fire station responded, but by the time they arrived from Clifton Hill, Point Fortin, the house was already gutted.

Juba was a businessman and a long-standing member of the People’s National Movement (PNM).

His wife travelled to Miami just last week to visit their children.

He said Juba’s body was found face down in the master bedroom.
