Duke doesn’t believe Tobagonians will buy in to new political party being launched today

“It is difficult for anybody in this country, Trinidad and Tobago, to form a party and win. Extremely difficult or impossible.”

That’s the opinion of Watson Duke, head of the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP, in light of the launch today of a new political party by his former colleague, Farley Augustine and his independent team.

In a GML report, Duke questioned who gave a mandate to this new party as the PDP won the last election 14 to 1 over the PNM.

He said: “So whatever Farley does is smoke and mirrors. He can’t change that. That goes down on the resume of Watson Duke and the PDP. He is trying to create a name for himself but I am saying that Tobago would not allow him to play fast and loose with their lives while ma and pa still suffer.”

The launch will take place at the Shaw Park Cultural Complex at 5 pm today.

Besides Duke, other political parties on the island are not buying into the idea of another political entity.

PNM Tobago Council Political Leader Ancil Dennis described the formation of a new political party less than halfway through PDP’s overwhelming mandate as “possibly the most obscene and insulting of all their indiscretions.”
