Cyprus researcher discovered 25 cases of Delta and Omicron variant combined

A experimenter in Cyprus has found a strain of the coronavirus that incorporates the delta and omicron variant.

Leondios Kostrikis, educator of biological sciences at the University of Cyprus, named the strain “deltacron,” because of its omicron-like inborn signatures within the delta genomes, Bloomberg shared.

The researchers reportedly sent their discoveries this week to GISAID, an international database that traces viruses.

So far, Kostrikis and his team have found 25 cases of the virus, according to the report. It’s still too early to tell whether there are more cases of the strain or what impacts it could have.
