Cudjoe distributes TT$380K in funding for Sport and Community initiatives

Minister of Sport and Community Development, Shamfa Cudjoe, on Thursday distributed TT$380,723.00 in grants to assist eleven community groups including community sporting organizations and one national governing body in executing their impactful programmes.

Minister Cudjoe emphasized, that this cheque distribution ceremony is focused on community groups and sport-serving bodies. She said “ Sport is an instrument for development, for unifying communities, unifying people and promoting peace within communities.”
Several groups expressed their thanks and appreciation to the Ministry along with providing highlights of the impactful projects being supported.

A representative from the ‘Back ah yard’ group stated that their aim is to boost the self-esteem of communities through culture and the arts. They work with schools throughout Cedros to Vessigny.

Another grant recipient; Higher Learning Football Academy stated that their goals and objectives include self-development and self-sustainability within communities. They work with students from Form 1 to 6 in learning sporting skills and in securing tertiary-level scholarships.

Also in attendance were Mr. Earland Kent, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sport and Community Development and Mr. Lionel Sampson, Supervisor I, Community Development Division.
