An autopsy is expected to be done today at the San Fernando mortuary, to determine the cause of death of an infant girl on Thursday.
Reports state that around 5:30am, the child’s mother gave the baby her bottle, burped her and then placed her in her baby hammock to sleep at their Carolina Village, Couva home.
The child was then taken out and fell asleep with her father.
However, police were told that at around 7.15 a.m. the father observed the baby lying on her back, unresponsive, with vomit on her clothing.
The Emergency Health Services were contacted and paramedics conveyed the child to the San Fernando General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
