Contractor alleges police persecution after switching from PNM to UNC

A contractor in Central Trinidad alleges that he has been marked for death after switching allegiance from the PNM to the UNC.

Keon Alexander told the Sunday Express that he has been facing police persecution and intimidation tactics after switching political allegiance and he believes it is all planned by a high-ranking Government official.

His allegations come days after Caroni Central MP Arnold Ram claimed that a Cabinet Minister fostered a plan to have the police raid the home of a UNC supporter and issued an all-points bulletin for his car.

Alexander, who owns contracting, maintenance, security and landscaping companies, said he switched his political allegiance to the UNC about two months ago and joined the campaign management team for Jevon Telesford, the UNC’s candidate in the Edinburgh/Longdenville South district for the August 14 local government election.

He said that since then, he has been the victim of police persecution.

Alexander said that in July 29, police came to his home and claimed they had reports of illegal activities and guns and ammunition on his premises.

He claims that they did not have a warrant but he allowed them inside to check nonetheless.

Nothing illegal was found.

Alexander said he was subsequently informed that the police got a report that his vehicle was involved in a series of house break-ins in the Edinburgh 500 area.

One day later, he was informed that that the police received another report that there are occupants from Nelson Street roaming the area in the vehicle and they armed and dangerous.

He said the information come to him via friends and relatives in the TTPS.

Alexander said he tried to make a police report but officers asked him how he came to know the information and wanted the person or persons in the Police Service who told him to come in and validate the report.

He admitted he once had a chequered past, and though he had an old court matter still pending, he has turned his life around and set up legitimate businesses.

Alexander said he has spoken with his lawyer following the incident and is weighing his legal options before making the next move.
