San Fernando Business Chamber President calls on Army to “protect us” after brutal murder

President of the Greater San Fernando Area Chamber of Commerce, Kiran Singh, is calling for the army to play a greater role in the fight against crime.

Singh, according to the Express newspaper, believes the army can play a greater role in assisting the police.

He suggested that the army may have underutilised resources that can be put to use to assist the police in crime detection and patrolling the country.

Singh acknowledged that the Police Service “can’t be everywhere all the time” but questioned why there didn’t appear to be increased police patrols and if the police are under resourced, then more visibility from the Defence Force.

Singh noted that while the role of the Defence Force is to protect the country from foreign invasions, right now, citizens “need protection from ourselves” as “we are being faced with serious crimes from individuals who live in Trinidad or visit Trinidad.”

He also called on Police Commissioner Erla Christopher to break her apparent silence.

Christopher has made limited media appearances and has been largely silent except for several press releases in which the TTPS cite her strategies as the catalyst behind several arrests.
