Chief Sec denies corruption within the THA

Chief Secretary and PNM candidate for Buccoo/Mt Pleasant Ancil Dennis has denied accusations laid by the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) that there is corruption within the THA.

Dennis, speaking at a political meeting at the Charlotteveille Field on Saturday, said “There is nothing in the Auditor-General’s report suggesting that any politician or any public servant walked away magically with millions of dollars of the THA’s money.”

He said the Auditor General’s department gave the THA just one month, in December 2020, to respond to the management letter which was for the audit of 2016.
He said Tobago was in a unique situation, because the management letters were dated November 12, 2020.

The PNM Tobago Council said the PDP has been misleading the public by using the content of a standard management letter from the Auditor General, and referring to it as the Auditor General’s report.

Dennis said the Auditor General’s report was signed off on December 10, just 28 days after the management letter was issued.

He assured party supporters that there was no information in the report which suggested any financial wrongdoing by anyone. “If there was corruption taking place, the police would have gotten involved.” he said.
