Baby girl dies after being fed by father in Palo Seco

Police are investigating the death of an eight-week-old infant girl, who died after being fed formula in her Palo Seco home on Thursday morning.

The parents of baby Chinice Adams and paramedics attempted cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) but she could not be revived.

The infant’s parents Mervin Adams, 53, and Chelsea Burnette, 23, both of Beach Road, told police that the father fed the infant a bottle of formula at around 4 a.m. and put her back to bed as is the daily routine.

He reportedly made a check about an hour and a half later and observed the baby was unresponsive.

The father immediately contacted the Emergency Health Services who gave him instructions over the phone to administer CPR to the baby until they arrived.

When paramedics arrived, they also attempted CPR but the child still had no signs of life.

The officers on the scene said the body of the child bore no visible marks of violence and foul play was not suspected.

It was removed to the San Fernando General Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem.
