This development comes on the heels of a spike in cases.
According to health officials cases have reached 6,600 in the US.
Media reports say a quarter of these cases have appeared in the state of New York.
Last week, New York declared its own state of emergency over the disease.
Recently the World Health Organization issued its highest emergency alert following a worldwide surge in cases.
Earlier this week, California and Illinois declared states of emergency.
