Ramsamooj’s companion denies reports of his arrest in Suriname; said he’s assisting the police

Camille Pagee, the companion of political scientist Derek Ramsamooj, is denying reports of his arrest in Suriname.

As we reported earlier, based on information from Suriname Newcentrale, Ramsamooj was recently detained in relation to a fraud incident at the Surinamese Post Savings Bank (SPSB).

The article said Ramsamooj was arrested and detained by the Public Prosecution Service for suspicion of participating in a criminal organisation, forgery, fraud and has acted in violation of the Anti-Corruption Act.

But, in a statement, Pagee said Ramsamooj is not a suspect and has not been charged, but was asked to assist with the investigations.

She said that the method of that country’s police is to question people in isolation, without allowing contact to family, etc.
According to Pagee: “Apparently they can keep a person at the station for eight days and there is nothing he or anyone can do to intervene in this time.”
