Former justice Minister Herbert Volney has died.
Reports reaching Izzso say Mr Volney passed away after suffering a heart attack.
Volney was Justice Minister under the Kamla Persad-Bissessar led People’s Partnership Government.
He lost his job as a result of the fallout over the Section 34 scandal.
The controversial law would have allowed charges to be dropped against more than a dozen people facing corruption charges, including businessmen Ishwar Galbaransingh and Steve Ferguson who wer wanted in the United States on corruption charges related to the construction of the Piarco international airport.
Then Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, at the time said that Volney had deceived the government by assuring the cabinet that the proclamation of the new law had been approved by the country’s Chief Justice and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
