9.5kg in marijuana seized in Couva along with ammo

Police seized a large quantity of narcotics and ammunition during exercises conducted in the Central Division yesterday, 10th, November, 2023.

Between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm, officers of the Central Division Task Force, with the support of the Operational Support Unit and K9 Unit, carried out an Anti-Crime Exercise in the Couva district.

The intelligence-led exercise targeted several known drug blocks around the Couva area, including Mc Bean and the Southern Main Road. At approximately 1:15 pm, the officers proceeded to Railway Road where extensive checks were made around an open area along the riverbank.

The search unearthed two large bags with 19 rectangular objects inside, which contained marijuana. The items, which weighed 9.5 kilograms with an estimated street value of TTD $285,000.00, were seized and taken to the Couva Police Station for further processing.

This exercise was coordinated by Snr. Supt. Simon, Supt. Montrichard, Supt. (Ag.) Gyan, ASP (Ag.) Ablacksingh and Insp. (Ag.) Stewart.

Also in the Central Division, between 6 pm and 1 am, a team of officers from various units, including the ACP Tactical Support Unit, National Operations Task Force (NOTF), and other agencies of the Central Division conducted an Operation Horizon Exercise. Acting on intelligence, the officers proceeded to Base Road Couva where a search was conducted of a bushy area along the western side of the roadway. The officers found a white plastic bag containing five magazines and 78 rounds of assorted ammunition. The items were seized for further processing.


This exercise was spearheaded by ACP Thompson and Superintendent Balkaran and supervised by ASP Ramesar.
Enquiries are continuing into the finds.
