Over 517 applications have been granted for the legal use and distribution of pepper spray licenses.
Minister of National Security, Fitzgerald Hinds, made the disclosure during the question and answer period in the Senate on Tuesday.
He was at the time responding to a question posed by Independent Senator, Dr Paul Richards.
Mr Hinds gave a breakdown of the licenses in areas relating to importers, retailers and individual user applications.
A call was also made by Dr Richards for proper monitoring of pepper spray importation.
