$3.8b added to 2023 budget

$3.8 billion has been added to the 2023 budget.

This additional sum will take the $57.6 billion budget to just over $61 billion.

The figures and information were presented by Government officials at yesterday’s meeting of Parliament’s Standing Finance Committee which focused on proposals for the supplementation and variation of the Budget for 2023.

More money will go to 22 ministries, however, the largest supplement is going to the Ministry of Health, who will receive $692.9 billion. Statutory authorities and service commissions got the smallest amount, $444,000.

The allocation to the Office of the President increased by $10. 7 million.

Finance Minister Colm Imbert, who was grilled by Opposition MPs about increases for electricity and phone services, explained that the new President and her family are expected to occupy President’s House. There was also $2.2 million funding for facility maintenance.
