Rowley says an SoE could setback economic recovery

Government will not introduce a state of emergency as a response to crime in the country at this time.

The Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley, says such a move could setback economic recovery made coming out of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He expressed confidence in the security services in terms of ensuring law and order.

Dr Rowley said the aim is to get to the root cause of crime.

The remarks were made at the weekly post cabinet news briefing Thursday.

Recently , the Opposition Leader, while addressing a United National Congress crime forum at the La Joya Complex this week, gave her support for the implementation of an SOE.
