Two men and two women are currently assisting police with their investigation into a firearm and ammunition discovery yesterday.
Between the hours of 10 pm on Friday 15th December 2023 and 2 am on Saturday 16th December 2023 an Anti-Crime/Road Traffic Exercise was conducted in the Arima district.
Around midnight on Saturday, officers were conducting a routine road traffic exercise along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway in the vicinity of the Cumuto intersection. Officers had cause to stop and search a silver Nissan Tiida vehicle.
During the search of the vehicle officers allegedly discovered one silver Beretta nine-millimetre pistol and three rounds of ammunition.
The occupants; the driver, male, 25, of Santa Rosa Heights, Arima, another male occupant, 24, of Cocorite Road, Arima, a woman 22, of Santa Rosa Heights, Arima and another female, 23, of Wallerfield were arrested and taken to the station for processing.
Investigations are ongoing.
