2 rifles among 3 guns seized by police during anti-gang ops

Police seized three firearms but made no arrest during three separate anti-gang operations on Thursday night in Port-of-Spain, San Juan and St. James.

During the operations, police officers found and seized two AR-15s, a pistol, a Glock 26 pistol and several rounds of ammunition.

According to police reports, in the first incident, at 12.30 am on February 2nd, 2024, officers attached to the Port-of-Spain Task Force conducted a search in the vicinity of Building 40, Nelson Street Planning, Port-of-Spain, where they allegedly found and seized one silver and black coloured Glock 26 Pistol fitted with a magazine containing 10 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition.

PC Russell is continuing enquiries into this matter.

In the second incident, between the hours of 3.30 am and 9 am, officers of the Western Division Task Force, Western Division Gang and Intelligence Unit and the Mounted and Canine Branch were targeting several priority offenders when they executed a search warrant at the Dundonald Hill, St. James home of a shooting suspect.

During the search, a pistol was allegedly observed in a box next to his bed. At that point, the suspect was able to evade arrest and escaped by running down a track outside his premises.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

PC Roberts is continuing enquiries in this matter.

And, in the San Juan district, officers of the San Juan Criminal Investigations Department searched a grassy abandoned area within the Petit Bourg area where they found a multi-coloured school bag which contained two silver and black AR 15.

PC Ramdeen is continuing investigations into this find.
