Police have detained 14 Venezuelan immigrants in separate exercises conducted in the South Western Division on Thursday.
Thirteen undocumented Venezuelan immigrants, five females and eight males were detained after officers conducted a search at an apartment in Penal Rock Road, Penal.
Meanwhile, as a result of intelligence gathered, officers executed a warrant at an apartment at Ali Mohammed Avenue, Batchiya, Penal, where they found 48 bottles of alcohol. A 31-year-old Venezuelan man was arrested for the offence of Possession of Uncustomed Goods. PC Ramsingh is continuing enquiries.
Also during exercises conducted in the Cedros District, officers had cause to investigate a Black Nissan E25 panel van which was parked off of the roadway in the Coconuts. Upon seeing the officers approaching, the driver exited the vehicle and ran away, leaving behind twenty-five cases of “liquor” and seventeen cases of whiskey. The items were seized and conveyed the Fyzabad Police Station pending further enquiries.
Investigations are ongoing.
