11 detained for Morvant firebombing

Eleven men were arrested by police during a series of searches and anti-crime exercises in Morvant from Thursday morning into the night.

This as officers continued enquiries into the firebombing of a home belonging to the relative of a reputed gang leader earlier this week.

On Wednesday morning, at least 10 gang members set fire to a house on Second Caledonia Extension.

Five people were in the house at the time but no one was hurt.

Police said the incident was linked to ongoing gang warfare in and around Morvant.

In the first exercise which began at around 11 am and ended at around 3 pm officers of the Morvant CID visited several homes in Second Caledonia including Unity Lane when they arrested three men.

The second exercise began at around 3 pm and continued into 8 pm when police arrested the remaining eight men.

The exercises were supported by officers of the San Juan CID, the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF), the Guard and Emergency Branch and the Emergency Response Patrol.
