Woman connected to Independence Square fire released

The woman who was arrested following allegedly setting fire to a building along Independence Square, Port-of-Spain, has been released pending further inquiries.

The 41-year-old hairdresser was detained on Tuesday following the fire which left 11 people homeless.

However, she was allowed to leave the Besson Street police station on Wednesday evening.

Police were initially told that the fire started after the woman and her 54-year-old landlord had a confrontation in the apartment.
Investigations are continuing.
