UNC Women’s Arm wants apology from Robinson-Regis for inappropriate ‘Tewarie’ joke

The Chair of the UNC Women’s Arm has strongly condemned the recent utterances of Minister of Housing and Development, Camille Robinson-Regis, during the rollout of the More Ways to Pay HDC Project.

In a release, the chair said, Robinson-Regis is the leader of Government business and the head of the PNM Women’s League, whom we have in the past condemned for mocking the middle name of the Opposition Leader.

They said “Yesterday (Monday) at the roll out Robinson-Regis said, “I consider him my good friend despite his name being Tewarie,” which even led to one media house raising questions during their prime time newscast.
The casual racism and the constant mocking of names must stop. Accordingly, the Women’s Arm calls for an apology from Robinson-Regis.

The Women’s Arm is making it clear that friendships ought never to be considered on the basis of one’s last name, and believes these casual utterances and inappropriate jokes only serve to teach division, hate and intolerance to our population. It must be condemned at every level of society.
