UNC wants probe into food hampers given out by the gov’t

A call is coming from the Opposition for a probe to be done into the food hampers being given out by the government as part of the COVID-19 relief measures.

Member of Parliament for Couva North, Ravi Ratiram, said the decision by NAMDEVCO as indicated in a letter of a reduction in hampers from four hundred and to six hundred is not satisfactory.

MP Ratiram made the point during a virtual news briefing this afternoon.

Mayor of Chaguanas, Faaiq Mohammed, said he was informed by NAMDEVCO the food hampers will be distributed to the forty-one constituencies via their MP’s.

However, Mayor Mohammed said a recent face book post shows a private citizen distributing one hundred hampers throughout the CouvaNorth constituency without the Opposition MP’s knowledge or input.

Meanwhile, MP for Barataria/San Juan, Saddam Hosein, called for fairness in the distribution of the food hampers.
