UNC MP says Stand your ground not about “giving out guns like sweeties”

Stand your ground law is not about giving out guns indiscriminately.

So says St Augustine MP Khadijah Ameen.

Speaking on Power 102 Digital’s Power Breakfast Show on Tuesday, she defended the Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s recent comments regarding arming citizens.

Ms Ameen explained that the intention is to ensure that the ownership process is made easier for citizens who legally qualify to apply for Firearm Users Licences.

MP Ameen described T&T as having turned into a killing field.

She lambasted the governing People’s National Movement and accused them of criticizing the UNC leader while failing to offer a better alternative to address crime and help citizens feel safer.
