TTUTA: We were not consulted on primary school for migrant children in September!

The Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association says they knew nothing about Government’s plan to integrate migrant children into the Primary School system in September.

In fact President of the Association Martin Lum Kin said they weren’t consulted nor informed of the decision by the Education Ministry.

He told News Power Now this morning however that keeping migrant children away from schools could pose a problem in the future.

He said TTUTA notes that to implement this policy there are certain considerations that must be made as well as certain requisites met by the Government and by extention the Ministry of Education.

He said there will be issues with communication between the migrant children and teachers and even with other students.

He stated that there will also be issues with the availability of space for these children.

He said that TTUTA could only advocate and advise its members as to what is required to have the policy put in place.

He disclosed that since TTUTA was neither advised nor consulted the Association could only make suggestions at this point.
