T&T national stranded in Israel seeking help to flee

A T&T national who is stranded in war-torn Israel has reached out to the Ministry of Foreign and Caricom Affairs, seeking assistance to escape the conflict.

In a brief statement late Sunday, Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Amery Brown said his ministry is working with diplomatic contacts “to render all possible assistance in the interest of her safety and welfare”.

He added, “Requests for assistance on behalf of nationals in the conflict zones can be sent to the email address: [email protected].”

The request for help was made as the Israeli government formally declared war on Saturday and gave the green light for “significant military steps” to retaliate against Hamas for its surprise attack.

Israelis were still reeling from the breadth, ferocity and surprise of the Hamas assault. The group’s fighters broke through Israel’s security fence surrounding the Gaza Strip early Saturday. Using motorcycles and pickup trucks, even paragliders and speedboats on the coast, they moved into nearby Israeli communities—as many as 22 locations.
