Traffic restrictions in place for POS City Day parade tomorrow

The 110th anniversary of the restoration of civic and municipal rights to the City of Port-of-Spain will be celebrated on Friday, and as such traffic restrictions have been put in place from early Friday into the afternoon.

The adjusted traffic arrangements will be in effect from 5am to 1pm on June 21, and will see the temporary relocation of taxi stands and restrictions on parking and driving on some streets within the capital city.

Parking is prohibited on several streets for the duration of the traffic order issued by Police Commissioner Erla Harewood-Christopher:

(a) Queen’s Park West, between Queen’s Park East and Chancery Lane;

(b) Chancery Lane, between Gordon Street and Queen’s Park West;

(c) Keate Street;

(d) Frederick Street, between Queen’s Park West and Independence Square North;

(e) Knox Street, between Queen’s Park West and Independence Square North;

(f) Hart Street;

(g) Queen Street, between Frederick Street and Abercromby Street;

(h) Independence Square North, between St Vincent Street and Nelson Street;

(i) Independence Square South, between Nelson Street and St Vincent Street;

(j) Abercromby Street, between Independence Square South and Knox Street;

(k) George Street, between Independence Square North and Independence Square South; and

(l) Pembroke Street, between Knox Street and Duke Street.

Drivers aren’t allowed to use the following streets between 10am and 1pm:

(a) Frederick Street, between Queen’s Park West and Independence Square South;

(b) Pembroke Street, between Gordon Street and Keate Street;

(c) Keate Street, between Charlotte Street and Abercromby Street;

(d) Knox Street, between Abercromby Street and Frederick Street;

(e) Hart Street, between Frederick Street and Abercromby Street;

(f) Independence Square North, between St Vincent Street and Nelson Street;

(g) Charlotte Street, between Queen Street and Independence Square North;

(h) Independence Square South, between Nelson Street and Abercromby Street; and

(i) Abercromby Street, between Independence Square South and Knox Street.

Taxi stands are also being moved temporarily as part of the special traffic arrangements:

(a) St Ann’s taxi drivers will operate on the southern side of Independence Square North, between Edward Street and St Vincent Street;

(b) St James taxis drivers will operate on the southern side of Independence Square South, between Edward Street and St Vincent Street; and

(c) Ice House/Broadway/Marine Square taxi drivers will operate on the northern side of Independence Square South, between St Vincent Street and Edward Street.

Drivers parked in violation of this traffic order will risk having their vehicles impounded by the police in accordance with section 108(1)(b) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act.
