Trade Minister tells Carnival bands to rely on materials at home

Trade Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon is calling on Carnival bands to go local

Speaking at a pattern-making and sewing class at Jimmy Aboud Limited, Gopee-Scoon said the issues that affected Tribe and several bands in terms of securing material to finish costumes should not have happened.

She said the situation could have been avoided had those bands relied on materials that were available right here in Trinidad.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry notes that from 2016 to 2021, this country’s garment manufacturing exported over TT$121 million in garments to various destinations.

Minister Gopee-Scoon said the fashion industry has a crucial role in growing the economy.
