Toco police working on tackling maritime issues affecting fisherfolk

Toco police are strategising to tackle maritime issues affecting local fisherfolk in the area.

The plans are underway following a community engagement walk within the Cumana community on Wednesday where several members of the fishing community expressed certain concerns that are affecting their livelihood.

Toco Police visited both the Toco and Cumuna Fishing Depot where dialogue was held with fishermen and boat owners sensitising them on measures to safeguard their equipment against loss. After the discourse, the parties agreed on a meeting next week to concrete their partnership.

The team of officers also visited stakeholders, homeowners and businesses in the community, sharing safety tips and security measures implemented to improve security in the neighbourhood, particularly ahead of the Christmas season.

Residents are also working with the law enforcement to revamp a WhatsApp group to improve accessibility and information sharing with police through the platform forum to timely address concerns in the community.
