Three held for Penal robbery

Quick response by patrol officers resulted in the arrest of three men who are currently assisting Penal Police with their investigations in connection with a robbery that occurred yesterday afternoon in the district.

The suspects are a 24-year-old man of San Fernando, a 27-year-old man of Ste Madeline and a 42-year-old man of Princes Town, all labourers.

They were arrested after being intercepted by police officers who responded to a report of robbery in progress at a business place along Mohess Road, Penal, on October 15th.
According to police reports, at 3.55 pm, a man was conducting transactions at his business place when three men, one armed with a firearm, entered the establishment and announced a hold-up.

The suspects allegedly robbed the proprietor of $25,000, a quantity of cigarettes and another man of his cell phone, before escaping in an awaiting silver Nissan Versa motor vehicle.

Police were contacted and an all-points bulletin was issued.

First responders canvassed the area and subsequently spotted the vehicle along Rochard Road, Barrackpore, whose occupants attempted to evade the police officers.

The vehicle, however, was intercepted a short distance away and was searched by police who allegedly found a silver and brown Taurus Barsil revolver with six rounds of .38 ammunition in the console area, a quantity of cigarettes and a cell phone.

The men are currently housed at the Penal Police Station pending further enquiries.
