UNHCR reporting 20,800 refugees and asylum seekers in T&T as of August 2021

In a publication dated July 19th, 2021, UNHCR is reporting 20,800 refugees and asylum seekers in Trinidad and Tobago. The report cites that the vast majority are of an employable age and originate from 40 different countries. The reports states that of the 20,800, 86% are from neighbouring Venezuela and 7% are Cuban.UNHCR has conducted over 1500 health consultations with refugees and asylum seekers in 2021.

Persons reaching out to NHCR include persons with acute vulnerabilities, including poverty, persons with serious medical conditions and survivors of gender based violence. Many also request assistance with cash for daily needs.
