Teen among seven arrested in Chaguanas

Teen Among 7 Arrested – one gun, a quantity of ammunition and drugs seized.

A 15-year-old was among seven persons arrested in several exercises that took place yesterday and early this morning across seven Divisions.

Officers of the Chaguanas Police Station are continuing enquiries after a report of robbery with violence at a bar located on the Chaguanas Main Road. According to police reports, around 1:30 am this morning, a 15-year-old allegedly attempted to grab cash from a patron, while announcing a robbery. A struggle ensued and the patron was allegedly dealt several blows about his face with a broken glass bottle. The teen fled but was held a short distance away by the bar’s security and taken to the Chaguanas Police Station.

An exercise conducted in the Division the previous day also resulted in the arrest of a Couva resident when 4.2 grammes of cocaine was allegedly found during the execution of a search warrant at the man’s home. ROGER RAMPERSAD was subsequently charged for possession of cocaine. Officers then proceeded to an area in Chaguanas known for the sale of illicit drugs where, with the assistance of the Canine Unit, they allegedly found 288 grammes of marijuana in an abandoned building.

Northern Division officers also seized 776 grammes of marijuana during the execution of a search warrant at a home in Carapo, yesterday. The search also resulted in the seizure of 10 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition. The 27-year-old occupant of the home was arrested in connection with the find.

Exercises conducted by Eastern Division officers led to the arrest of a 32-year-old Mayaro man for possession of two rounds of 12-gauge cartridges. Five pounds of cured marijuana and 160 fully grown marijuana trees were also seized in a separate exercise conducted by officers in the Toco district. The plants which were found at an abandoned house 15 feet off Cemetery Street, were subsequently destroyed by the officers.

Members of the Western Division Task Force conducted an anti-crime exercise in Bagatelle, Diego Martin between the hours of 11am and 6 pm yesterday. During the search of an abandoned lot of land in an area known as ‘Gaza’ they allegedly found one Steyr Mannlicher .40 calibre pistol fitted with a magazine containing five rounds of 40 calibre ammunition hidden behind a galvanized fence.

Exercises in the North Eastern Division yesterday led to the recovery of a white Nissan Tiida vehicle reported stolen in Chaguanas on Saturday 8th April, 2023. During the exercise, based on information received, the officers proceeded to the corner of Williams and Bombay Street, El Socorro where they allegedly found a black bag containing 67 grammes of marijuana in three clear plastic packets lodged in a wall on the eastern side of the street.

Officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force performed road check exercises between the hours of 5 pm and 9 pm yesterday during which they stopped a silver Nissan Versa with two occupants. The car was searched and a rectangular object wrapped in red tape containing 533 grammes of marijuana was allegedly found under the left front passenger seat. One of the vehicle’s occupants was subsequently arrested in connection with the find.

Two men were detained yesterday, following a report of robbery with violence in St. Mary’s. According to police reports, around 7 pm, a 32-year-old man was sitting in his parked vehicle outside a supermarket in the area when he was approached by 3 men who allegedly dealt him several blows about his body and robbed him of a quantity of cash and other items. Two of the men were arrested shortly after with the assistance of Southern Division Task Force – Area East officers.

Enquiries into these incidents are continuing.
