Swarm of bees attack at Palmiste Park – 7 people nursing injuries

A number of people had to be conveyed to hospital for medical treatment, after a swarm of bees attacked their Easter Monday afternoon at Palmiste Park, San Fernando.

The crowd had gathered at the park to engage in fun activities when the swarm attacked shortly after 4pm, causing families and friend to panic and run away screaming.

The incident led to a nearby car show and mini petting zoo event hosted by the Rapidfire Kidz Foundation and Team Fast Parts to be shut down.

A GML report stated that Jeffery Ramroop, who was about to sell his kites was stung all over his body by what he believed to be thousands of bees. Lenny Mahepat who was at the park with his family got stung as he went to render assistance.

He told the media house: “We heard a lot of screaming coming from down the hill. People was running. It had a lady covered in bees. I take a sheet and covered she down and I start spraying fly spray because we brought food here. There was a guy across on the other side covered in bees also.”

Emergency responders arrived at the scene with two ambulances and at least seven people were taken to the San Fernando General Hospital.
